Mid-Winter 2013

What will this winter bring? Always a wild card here on Long Island with regards to the weather. Walking around the yard, I am suprised at the plants in  my collection that seem to thrive until the very coldest temperatures arrive and shut them down into lowest depths of dormancy. Their seasonal cycles never truly end, or start, with a clearly defined date on the calender, but rather respond to a combination of weather patterns, with some years the hardiest varieties offering hope of year-round growth & interest. Here are a few that still look good in spite of the winter.
