Pine Barrens ~ Snowy Morning
Driving to work one morning at around 6:45 am, I had to stop and take these photos. A wet snow, after some rain, coated every surface. Beautiful in the dawn light.
The Atlantic Coastal pine barrens is a unique ecosystem occuring in dry, acidic, infertile soils in locations along the northeast coast of the US. A large area of these stunted, dwarf forests, comprised of several pine & oak varieties, heaths & sedges, plus many rare plants and animals found only in these unique communities, lies just a mile or so from my home in the village of Westhampton Beach.
